| Reports |
Tell me about visit times, how accurate are visit time figures? Measuring visit times absolutely is not possible especially talking account the latest browser releases with web page tabs. It is not possible to know whether a visitor is avidly reading your web site or has already moved onto another website via their browser tab while your web site is still open. Our way around this problem is to measure visit times by the number of seconds that elapses between each visitor’s first page view and their last page view. If just one page view occurs over a period of ten minutes without any follow up of a second page view this is measured as a visit time of 1 second. If the visitor is reading this first page over and over (we don’t know) and does not move onto a second page view we measure their visit time as 1 second, because no follow up second page view event has occurred. Because the analytics sections in web visitor ID display the cumulative values of all visit times, the effects of a few unusual visitor characteristics (like reading just one page view for many minutes) will be insignificant in the total statistical analysis. |
 |
Tell me about Hits, what are they?
Hits in Web Visitor ID are Page Views. Instead of having to use headings like Page Views/Total visits in the reports, we have preferred to us the term Hits. When a visitor arrives at one of your web pages this counts as one hit. When they move onto another page, this is a second hit, and so on. |
 |
Why are hit numbers different from my page counters?
Probably because your web visitor ID code is not installed in all your web pages. And also remember that search engines possess huge archives of older web pages and these pages can lead searchers to your website. |
 |
Explain the filters I can see above the reports.
Standard and Silver subscriptions save the most recent 10,000 visitor’s information within each account. You can adjust your report display by searching and filtering all your visitor records using any the time or criterias you see at the top of each report page.
Gold subscriptions save the most recent 35,000 visitor’s information within each account.
These figures apply to quantity one subscription. Pro rata for higher quantities. |
 |
What do Genuine visitor criteria mean?
You can adjust your Genuine Visitor report to display only those visitors that meet defined visit criteria, such as a minimum visit time or minimum number of hits. If you choose Visit time as the criteria and enter 1 minute: second, the report display all visitors during the time period selected whose visit was equal to, or greater than one minute long.
If you choose Hits as the criteria and enter a value of 3, the report displays all visitors during the time period selected that have visited 3 or more of your web pages. |
 |
In the Counters report, how are Genuine visitors measured?
Web Visitor ID identifies visitors who have spent 1 minute and longer looking at your web site as a Genuine visitor for this report. If you want to use different visit time or number of hits to identify valuable visitors, use the genuine visitor report filters. |
 |
What is Bounce rate?
A Bounce occurs when a visitor arrives at your website, registers one hit (Page view) and bounces away without any further activity on your site. The bounce rate is the percentage of bounce visits to the total number of visits. |
 |
What does Tooltip mean in the Referrer column?
Sometimes the referrer is not a true search engine, or the URL has been entered directly. Move your cursor over the row and Referrer cell that interests you and the full reference will appear as a tooltip. |
 |
What does View Tooltip mean in the Keywords column?
Sometimes it is not possible to resolve the complete keyword text, or there is no keyword because the visitor has typed in your URL directly. View tooltip directs you move your cursor over the row and Referrer cell that interests you and the full reference will appear as a tooltip. |
 |
What are Null Visits and Value visits in the Analytics report?
In the Analytics report you can search and filter your visitor records to display the absolute numbers and percentages of visits that are either less than your selected criteria (Null visits) or equal to or greater then your selected criteria (Value visits). Value visits is similar in concept to Genuine visitors whereas Null visitors are visitors who do not measure up! |
| |
| Google |
What does the All Google searches figure represent in the Analytics report?
The All Google search figure is the total of all visits that have a Google origin, including AdWords, direct searches, Google syndication, Page2searches etc. |
 |
Why do my Google search totals not match my Google AdWords click counts? Google AdWords clicks very often resolve (within Google) into straightforward Google search hyperlinks, in other words they do not resolve as separate AdWords clicks as we see them. |
 |
Why do my visit times not match those reported in my Google Analytics?
Google makes the same point as we do, it is not possible to read visitor’s minds and know whether a visitor is actually reading your web page or have moved on while you web site page remains open. We have our way of measuring visit times and Google has their way. We have compared two sets of visit time statistics between our Google Analytics report and our web visitor ID report and have found a difference of +/- 10%. This is in our view pretty good bearing in mind the difficulty of absolute measurement. |
 |
Why are my Page views (hits) different from Google Analytics?
You have to install the Web Visitor ID HTML code on absolutely every web page (including old and archived web pages) for the figures to match completely. |
 |
| Searching visit records |
My Search comes up with no matching records. Why?
Make sure that your search criteria is correctly spelled as presented in Web Visitor ID reports. For example when searching visitors from the USA, make sure that the Country spelling is identical to the format used in Web Visitor ID (e.g. United States), or if you are searching for visitors from the UEA, enter United Arab Emirates. |
 |
| Performance improvement |
How can I measure customer loyalty using web visitor id? Keep the Returning visitors under constant review. Download the reports from time to time and check for repeat returning visitors. |
 |
How can I optimize my web site?
Please read through the website optimization page. |
 |
How can I track illegal logins?
Add the webpage URL that follows successful login to your URL’s tracked by web visitor id.
Download your All Visitors report to Excel on a regular frequency basis.
Match the IP addresses of authorized users with the IP addresses of All Visitors. If there any illegal logins you will be able to identify them very easily. |
| |
| Pay per Click Fraud Analysis |
How can I detect pay per click fraud?
Yes. You can see the same multiple click visitors referred by search engines listed in the Returning visitors report, and you will see if unusually low visit times are reported in the Analytics report if any search engine performance is out of line with other search engines. |
